Growing Smarter Through Reading: Dario’s Love of Learning

For Dario, reading is a way to learn about everything that captures his curiosity—from airplanes and reptiles to the mysteries of space.

DARIO'S STORY

Ask Dario what he likes about PCAT, and his answer is simple: it is helping him learn, grow and prepare for what comes next.

For Dario, reading is an important part of that journey. In his own words, he likes reading because “it helps me grow and get smart.”

But talk to him a little longer and it quickly becomes clear that reading is also a way for Dario to explore the things that genuinely fascinate him.

He likes books about airplanes, space and creatures—although he is quick to clarify that what he really loves are reptiles.

And when asked about one of his favorite books, one title stands out: Mysteries of the Universe. What did he learn from it?

“Everything. Almost everything about space.”

It’s a simple conversation with a young student, but it captures something important about literacy. Learning to read gives children access to the subjects that spark their curiosity. A book can become a way to discover planets, understand animals, explore airplanes or simply answer the next question that comes into their minds.

For Dario, reading isn’t only something he practices at PCAT. It’s becoming a tool for discovering more about a world he’s already eager to understand.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

Strong reading skills give children the ability to follow their own curiosity. When a child can pick up a book and explore something that genuinely interests them, literacy becomes more than an academic skill—it becomes a pathway to discovery and a lifelong love of learning.

“I love reading because it helps me grow and get smart.”
