From Reading Support to Gifted Testing: Amira’s PCAT Journey

After two years with PCAT, Amira’s reading has grown tremendously—and now, as a first grader, she is being evaluated for gifted reading classes.
JACQUELINE’S STORY
For Jacqueline Crowley, the impact of PCAT is easy to see in her daughter Amira.
Amira is currently in first grade and is now in her second year with the program. Over that time, Jacqueline says PCAT has helped strengthen her daughter’s reading in a meaningful way.
“PCAT is wonderful. It has helped her with her reading tremendously.”
That growth has now opened the door to an exciting new opportunity. Amira is being tested for gifted classes in reading—an achievement that reflects both her progress and the confidence she has continued to build as a young reader.
For Jacqueline, PCAT has become more than an after-school program. It has become a place her family trusts and wants to continue being part of.
“I love it here. We love it here. We’ll be here again next year.”
Amira’s story is a reminder that when children receive consistent literacy support early, progress can lead to new opportunities—and help young students begin seeing just how much they are capable of achieving.
WHY THIS WORK MATTERS
Early literacy support can do more than help a child catch up. With consistent encouragement and focused instruction, students can build the skills and confidence that allow new academic opportunities to emerge.
“PCAT is wonderful. It has helped her with her reading tremendously.”
